It is out! What are your thoughts? This is the last Modern Warfare title. How did it stack up to Black Ops? Pros and Cons compared to Battlefield 3? All comments welcomed.
From Mad Max722…I saw this commercial the other day and thought what a great way to get pumped up for the release of MW3 by watching Sam Worthington, Jonah Hill and Dwight Howard. I certainly enjoyed this one (Geek out moment!). Enjoy for yourself!

Just got MW3 from midnight release. I see a few other a-gamers online and the servers are up and running. That’s a start.
I’ll be tryin’ it out tonight…so far, according to YouTube vids, I really do not like seeing Killstreaks are reset/cycled without dying…plus the M.O.A.B. is crap, just like the Nuke was crap. So, the campers and boosters will hang out to get their 25 killstreak and then, BOOM!
Reports from A-Gamers who have played it?…it looks like there are many who have tried it already.
Love the newest “There’s a Soldier in All of Us”. I can’t watch it without smilin’…
After playing for a little over 2 hours I think I am on level 10 and my M16 is on level 11. (yes you level weapons now too. Not sure how I feel about this). 10 hours into BF3 and I am working in level 7.
The kill streaks are nice and different in some regard. There are assault kill streaks which have a negative impact on the enemies and get reset if you die. Then there are support kill streams that benefit your team and continue building even if you die. Then there is a specialist kill streak that I have not unlocked yet.
I enjoy MW3 but miss some aspects of BF3. MW3 someone calls in a helicopter that is highly accurate CPU controlled instrument of death. In BF3 helicopters are played controlled and only as accurate as the players profiency level. I enjoy both games for very different reasons but I sum it up MW3 is more arcade style and BF3 is more tactical/simulation.
I’M SO FIRED UP…LET’S DO THIS! Wait a minute I will have to get the game first. Hope to have it soon! By the time I get the game you will all be hardened vets and I will be the n00b…Oh come on!!
So which game is better? I know that a lot of the A-gamers have both games and so I’m wondering which of the two I should buy first? I enjoy both titles but which one would I get more bang for my buck on. I’ve heard that MW3 is an expensive expansion pack (similar to what was initially said about Halo: ODST) and the campaign is short. Whereas, BF3 is a beautifully redered game with great sound but has had problems with it’s servers. Which to get….hmmmm.
I find it really comes down to individual preference. Both are very great games but in very different ways. I will give you my brief opinion on both maybe it can help you make an educated decision.

Summary
In only a fraction of the time on MW3 I have far surpassed my progress on BF3. Then again so has everyone else as I am in rooms with gamers on level 50 already! I am a marginal player at best and I can consistently pull 8-15 kills in each online match in MW3. Still I don’t feel the same satisfaction from my kills in MW3 as I do in BF3. Small maps in MW3 make it like shooting fish in a barrel. Eventually you are bound to hit something. In BF3 you are lucky to hit something after jogging for 2 miles because everyone in your team took the vehicles and forgot to give you a ride! (You crash one fully loaded helicopter into a radio tower and all of a sudden you’re not trustworthy.)
Everything I hate about BF3 is also everything I love about it. The way your teammates laser blinds you just as well as the enemies, the forty hour course that should be required before you hop in a jet or helicopter. The jacked up match making in multiplayer. At first I was pissed to be on level 2 in a room with guys 20 levels ahead of me. Then I came to the realization that BF3 like in life contains some people that are more talented than others. I could either get pissed because they are good and I am not, or I can watch, play and learn because it feels so good when this noob snipes some veteran with a head shot after he thinks he parachuted to safety.
I like and will keep both games. MW3 to be with the group and feel like I am making progress with frequent leveling up and just good fun running and gunning when I am too tired for strategy. I will use BF3 when I need to do a bit more problem solving or I am playing with a smaller group. The best thing I can say if you have not purchased either yet is borrow MW3 for a day and give it a spin. Then borrow BF3 for a week so you can get past the initial frustration and start to scratch the surface.
Hope this helps.
That was brief?
I played till 7 in the morning. Good. GAME. (I mean this in the Starcraft sense).
I started off waiting in line. I thought they would let us wait in the building but they didn’t and I stood out in the cold, in my shorts, for about an hour and a half.
Once I got the game, I went to Taco Bell, ordered a bunch of food and came home to eat and play. I input my Elite code, installed the game and then I got a message.
Disc unreadable.
Good. Game. (Again. Starcraft reference).
I went back tot he store, they were open, they exchanged. I got back home. Got the Disc Unreadable error again, and figured, Hey, maybe my install is corrupt. So I installed it again and this time it worked.
I only played multiplayer.
Good things: Gameplay feels like COD:MW2.
Bad things: Gameplay feels like COD:MW2.
On the one hand, it’s familiar. I didn’t play Black Ops much, but, like the bike, I didn’t have to totally relearn how to get on and go.
I was pretty upset that they didn’t have dedicated servers and there were a couple of games where the host left. Lag overall seems pretty good, but we’ll see.
The killstreaks are reset after death. The defensive killstreaks don’t reset, but they don’t really give you a huge offensive edge. At about 8 kills total, you get an advanced UAV which is like a UAV that shows you what direction your opponent is facing. I don’t really feel it’s overpowered.
The specialist killstreaks give you perks. Mine were set to give me perks I didn’t have equipped, so in addition to whatever three I was using, depending on how high I got in kills, I got more “awesome”. I think I used this once and I got my highest streak. Right now, I prefer to use normal killstreaks.
Leveling a weapon is nice. I see it as differentiating players from others. Some will focus on one type of weapon and get more for it. It may hinder them because that will pigeonhole them. Some people might want to be able to use any and all weapons, but I think this gets people to focus on a particular…uh…tactic?
These are first impressions. My attitude might change. So far, I would say I like it.
Gen Thomas, I think you would really like the Kill Confirmed game mode. Once a player is killed, their dog tag drops. Picking up the dog tag confirms the kill. Having a teammate pick up the tag means kill denied.
Sounds like it’s another Modern Warfare. I have to say I’m a little on the fence since Ishy brought to my attention that there is splitscreen, online multiplayer. That means I COULD play it online with my 13-year-old. I’m also apprehensive because it sounds like another Activision cash-grab, and I’m afraid we’d tire of it too quickly. That, and I think the official term for my play style is “sucking balls”. I think I’ll just lament not having the time/money for all the games and comfort myself with Batman, GoW3, Deus Ex, and the eventual Skyrim and Assassin’s Creed.
I’ll be keeping the GoW handy if people want to join me for a game.
Wow, everything I have read from everyone who contributded is spot on, IMO.
For me, there is absolutely no doubt which game would get my money if I was only purchasing one game and that would be BF3…THEE best military FPS I’ve ever played, hand’s down.
Like I said in an e-mail to the guys I gamed with last night after MW3, it felt like I was in a Warner Brothers cartoon with Wylie Coyote and the Road Runner, graphics and childish gameplay made me truthfully feel that way.
@Clumsy, you are correct, Sir, Kill Confirmed is the mode I liked the best. I can see myself throwing MW3 in the 360 when I only have a 1/2 hour to game and get into Kill Confirmed.
But, if I have an hour or more, it will always be BF3 over MW3…no comparsion between the two, but to compare the games, MW3 is Kessler’s Whiskey and BF3 is Crown Royal.
@N8, I love Gears 3! Epic really nailed the multiplayer this time around.
Yes they did, and I’m always up for a match if I’ve got time. We got the season pass there too. So, I’ll always have the new DLC. I like that they throw some campaign stuff in there with the multiplayer too.
I’m in with both of yall! I still need to download the DLC though. Don’t have it yet.
@Mandalore: yes that was brief. Only 12 bullet points
@Gen: Sorry we could not connect last night. I was running in a party with G. Good times, we did domination, kill confirmed and survival from spec ops. Made it to wave 15 before it all fell apart.
I am happy to have MW3 th game modes are entertaining and te daily and weekly challenges for XP bonuses (similar to Halo Reach) will keep me coming back. This game does have a lot of playability and is great with a group.
BF3 is awesome in its own way but it’s not the game you hope online with to catch up with your buddies on. No general chit chat going on there! I am looking forward to two things right now:
1. Call of Duty to get Elite up online as it is supposed to be and iPhone app.
2. BF3 DLC and iPhone app.
I’d hate to see lengthy.
Well thanks for all the info guys. This does help and I think I would prefer going with BF3. I prefer games where tactics are more beneficial than just a run and gun. I think this is one of the reasons why I get irratated in MW2 and GoW3 because when I get on team DM, it seems that none of the teamates I have that are 40 levels higher than me have any idea what tactics are. They get lucky and shoot me in the face with a shotgun or something. Thanks everyone!
Well MW3 has hit my house and thus far I am enjoying the game much more than the time I have put in with BF3. Not to say that I don’t like BF3 but immediately upon entering the Mulitplayer environment of MW3 I was reminded of why I am a fan of the Call of Duty series. I played for 1 1/2 hrs. and I have made level 13 and I still have yet to reach this level with BF3. I know there are a lot of pros and cons that have been written on both games and I would agree with other posts that each game in its own right has good and bad points. I plan to keep both games and hope to see all of you for a Frag Night soon.
