I’ve been quiet for a while because I decided to forgo the newer games and try to finish the ones I’ve been storing here on my shelf.
No longer.
If South Korea gets invaded in the next week, it’s because they’re too busy to defend themselves. Starcraft 2 has officially arrived.
I know you guys are mostly into Xbox 360, but I encourage you guys to give SC2 a try. I have a code to the first person that wants it for a 7-hour trial.
As for the game itself, it’s polished. The graphics are awesome — seeing the battles wage, I almost forget to keep playing because I’m staring like a deer stuck in beautiful headlights. The biggest draw for me is the revamped Battle.net which keeps stats, charts graphs regarding player performance, and saves replays.
It’s geektopia.
You can also play casually with friends and go at it with others, against the AI, or try out custom maps. There are achievements, and it seems like Blizzard is trying to become the new Steam.

I’ll take a code! Will it work on a Mac?
I enjoyed the first Starcraft enough, but I don’t have the dedication to be good at RTS games. I like playing them though.
Hi G!
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen you, Man!
Even if your not playin’ anything new, drop by and tell us about it. We need to get back together again for a MW2 Frag Night!
Kinda got tired of RDR after getting the 100% achievement and went back to MW2, mixing in a little Alan Wake and MoH Beta.
I will be getting SC2 having lived the first one but am going to wait a wee while first. Going to go back through the original campiagns as they are still awesome.
Hey Mandalore, what’s your email?
Gen, I definitely miss our A-Gamer frag nights. I’ll be online more as I just got some part time work and am currently setting up my own photography studio. How’s the MoH beta?
Womblemk3, hurry up! The new Starcraft is definitely worth the 14 or so year wait. I think it will definitely change the way games are being played online. More updates to come!
If you like shooters and I know you do, G; You’ll like MoH.
It definitely does not have the fluid motion, graphics, and feel of MW2, butit stands fine.
EA was very smart to keep the CoD control lay-out; the high percentage of MW/MW2 players will give MoH a try and will be able o get into it without any learning curve.
The Left for Dead 2 beta made me cancel my pre-order of that game.
The MoH beta has me retaining my pre-order.
I am looking forward to 10.12.
I am very tempted to pick up StarCraft 2 but $60 is a little steep right now considering I have two Xbox Games I’m in progress of playing. Then there is that whole “G” kicking my butt with the protoss thing. I remember when you and I would play and you would surround all my key buildings and start playing trivia. For every answer I got wrong you destroyed a building. Damn slow Terrins could not produce offensive units fast enough to cripple you.
oo
i was such a jerk back then. those were fun days! Starcraft and LAN. they took out LAN support, but it’s still easy to play with friends. i agree it’s expensive, but go to Kmart. $60 with a $20 gift certificate. good enough to buy a 360 platinum game.
Way back in the day I picked up Starcraft along with the original Warcraft before that. They were the first REAL online games. Great games and loved them. 14-15 years later my tastes and gameplay have evolved into what is now MMO’s. I play World of Warcraft and find little time and interest in other games. I do love my shooters though.
I’m posting to say that I did purchase this game out of the simple fact that it was historic to me. What I found was a game that has held my interest. I was pretty sure that no RTS could do that…. I was wrong. The game can be as quick or as slow as you see fit and touches on many things that most RTS’s do not.
I will close with this. I HATE the new Battlenet crap as a whole. They are linking REAL LIFE names to in-game names… also they are joining forces with Facebook to link your name/game into that also. TRUST me… this is all VERY scary. I pulled everything I did on facebook down. So many bad things can come of this you really have no idea.
The evolution of the Internet has gotten to FORCEWARE! Things are taking place behind the scenes that you really have no idea about… anywho…. didnt want this to turn into a scary post… sorry.
Just be careful what you offer up freeing to the Interwebs… remember that hiding behind a gamertag in a game or on forums is ALWAYS the best route.
to clarify, starcraft doesn’t put the names of all players — just the ones that you confirm by getting their email address or adding them through facebook. to get friends through the game, you have to either have played with them, or have gotten their secret character code.
if anything, it’s WoW that’s getting kind of scary. Supposedly, all forum users will have to post using their full names. It’s definitely going to be interesting where that goes.
you speak the truth… yet someone was able to write a mod to find EVERYONE’S real name regardless if you allowed them to do so. With SC2 being completely mod driven also… I imagine one will be right around the corner for this too. As far as the real names being in the forums that was battlenet wide… not just WoW. But they have reconsidered this approach and did not implement it atm.
Of course, if you don’t want them to know your real name, don’t give it to them. I created a Battle.net account for the free trial. My name is Turd Fergusen, and I live at 1234 Sesame St.
Sure… the only issue with that is all the account hacking that goes on. You can’t get your account back if the name on the account doesnt match your name on your picture ID. Nothing a lil photoshop cant handle.
I didn’t really think about that. I just created it to play the demo Clumsy gave me. I’ve played the first couple missions. I plan on playing a few more and messing around with the skirmishes a bit. I don’t know if it will be worth the $60 price tag for me right now. I don’t think I’m good enough at the game to make it worth my while. I appreciate the demo code though Clumsy. It’s a pretty game, and it takes me back to when I was primarily a PC gamer. Too bad I can’t just borrow a friend’s copy like the old days.
How many a-gamers own StarCraft 2? I’m fighting the urge for a digital purchase but may give in if there are a few more of us active on battlenet.
I couldn’t resist after Clumsy gave me the free trial. The game is familiar and nostalgic while adding a few new features and a batter story. I’ve only been playing the campaign so far since I know I’d get my ass handed to me if I played a stranger. I’d be happy to play with or against (if you take it easy on me) some A-Gamers though.
If you have the available funds and you like RTS games, you probably won’t find a better game to spend the money on right now.
