I was in the mood for an old school JRPG, and I picked up Final Fantasy IV for the DS for about $15 used. For being a re-released title, I’m really impressed with the production values. They’ve got some really nice cut scenes added in there, and the whole thing is redone with polygons that look at least as good (if not better) than the Final Fantasy games on the PS1. I know Square has redone a few other of the early Final Fantasy games for the DS, and Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are available on the iPhone. based on my short experience so far, I think any of them would be a good investment if you want one of these games to play.

i’ve heard tons of good things about 4. never played it. wondering if ff7 will get a ds game. or have they released it? o.o
I knew I’d get at least Clumsy to comment. Looks like we’re the only ones here that enjoy a JRPG.
1 and 2 are on the iPhone. Looks like 3 and 4 are the only Final Fantasy games on the DS. 5 and 6 are Game Boy Advance. From the production values on 4, I really hope they re-release a DS version of 5 and 6.
I wonder about 7 since Square has said they won’t do a HD remake of it. That probably rules out a DS port.
